Many Gallo-Roman traces were found on the town with a second-century villa, located in "Little Brillat," composed of several rooms opening onto a tiled courtyard in the middle of which stands a fountain. In addition, a Merovingian necropolis of several sarcophagi containing a few bones was discovered in 1930. On the set of Savernat, a huge monolith, Anne Stone or Stone of Anne, was used as a terminal for a long time limit of justice. At its foot, we found fragments of a blue glass urn which could suggest that this place served as a burial.

Things to see and do

Saint-Martinien Church: Rebuilt on an old Romanesque church in the 14th and 15th centuries which have been preserved as the walls of the nave dating from the twelfth, the current building has two stately vaulted chapels, one covered with a cradle, the the other a vaulted ribbed based on cul-de-lamp adorned with the escutcheons of the family of Beaucaire. The bell tower in chestnut shingles, is a modern building in lieu of a bell tower with two bays. In 1873, the murals have been completed but they disappeared during the restoration of 1980. A gilded wooden statue representing Saint Martinien dressed as a soldier with a cape and carrying a sword and a helmet.

Career: A "Jarge" is an ancient granite quarry blue. The quarrymen working on the site built huts of 1.80 mx 1.60 m, facing south, large granite blocks 50 cm thick perfectly nested within each other. The stones are brought in bullock carts to the viaduct later (between Évaux-les-Bains and Chambon) and return the tanks go through the mill Rochebut to make flour.

Cross: On a pedestal of granite steps forming an altar of the Cross Can marks the site of a necropolis (= the height of the can). Supporting a cross oldest now replaced by a wrought iron cross, the Calvary of the 17th century may also have served as a stop and landmark for travelers. In the village, another cross in the 19th cast is placed on a square stone base. Engineered, it has a vegetal decoration of vine leaves.

In the municipality, there were two important feudal castles: Laage and Bartillat. The present castle was built in Bartillat as a base in the 18th century. The castle is said to have de Laage "as many windows as there are days in the year" and 99 areas. 99 and not 100 as the lord who has 100 domains must raise and maintain a regiment for the king. Restored in 1701, a large staff is necessary for its maintenance. It was demolished in 1854, its materials sold and dispersed. Currently, there are only dependencies.
