The Saint-Marcory church is located in the town of the same name, in the Dordogne, 10 km southwest of Belves.
It was built in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries on the basis of a first-Catholic place of worship itself located on a former anctuaire dedicated to Mercury, in antiquity.
The charm of the church lies in its simplicity, consisting of a nave that extends a choir with semicircular apse. Note that the ship was swiftly with a paneling which completed the original vault (XIV century). A triumphal arch leads to the choir.
Moreover, the portal is decorated with a frieze "s" typical Romanesque churches in the region and falling arches on small columns. There is also a defense of chest (wall) helped raise the bedside, including shot holes. Finally, the tower wall has two bell-berry: it rises to the level of the triumphal arch between nave and choir.
We will be pleased to visit this church on the north of the village, surrounded by a garden and neighboring the cemetery. A bucolic setting that can stake a hike in this part of Périgord so rich in sights.
