Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust is a small municipality in the canton of Rochefort-en-Terre.
The landscape of St. Lawrence is characterized by a remarkable and harmonious diversity combining both hedgerow farmland, woodland and heath wastelands and wet meadows. The terrain is varied with three hills. One located in the South, Beaumont area, the other located in the East sector Lézeran and the third located in the North sector mounds. These three elevations offer outstanding views of the valley and the village of Ust Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust. Southeast, overlooking the valley of the River Oust, a massive large wooded 80 acres partly owned by Groupement Forestier de Beaumont is crossed by trails. It allows relaxation and the practice of outdoor sports (hiking, horseback or mountain bike). At Southwest, The town is bordered by the canal from Nantes to Brest. A lock and a hydro drive this section of the river. Besides the canal, water in other forms animates the landscape (source étier, well, wash fountain and streams ...). Since July 2007, a bridge on the Oust connects the town to the canal from Nantes to Brest, and thus have access to walking, cycling and perhaps horse hauling and all walking areas located on the other side of the canal.
The municipality has participated in the creation of the "first Community of Communes of France, the Val d'Oust" (CCVO) on July 92, became the Community of Municipalities of Val d'Oust and Lanvaux (CCVOL) in 1997.
Through CCVOL a manor house (1624) and his peasant farmhouse, located in the village, has become a tourist accommodation. The farmhouse also houses the local Cyber-base - Cybercommune, service discovery and introduction of new technologies and an auditorium.
In order to improve the quality of life in Saint-Laurent, the municipality established a Long Distance Transport service between St. Laurent / Missiriac / Malestroit to facilitate the movement of people, every Thursday morning for the market Malestroit. The town of Saint-Laurent also has a tennis court and a rugby field.
But St. Lawrence is also distinguished by the importance of community life. Since 1993 the Association Living in St Laurent (AVSL), organizes the Festival "Cabaret Home" which has gained a regional reputation, and even national, since television came FR3 film Festival 2000 issue "Should not dream" and provides a flow of more than 5,000 people during the two days of celebration. The AVSL adheres to the association of Saint-Laurent de France which has 40 of the 103 cities with the name Saint Laurent. Every year, one of Saint Laurent organizes a gathering of cities of the Association in July 2010, it was the turn of the Common Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust.
A major project has been realized: the construction of a bridge connecting the Oust the town of Saint-Laurent to the towpath on the other side of the canal.
