Small town in Brittany installed in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine, Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets now part of the urban community of the country of Saint-Malo. It is located on the Rance estuary, near St Malo and its many attractions.

Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets hold his holy name Jaoua, a Breton saint of the sixth century. With a typical Breton architecture, the city has a heritage and historic interest. Located on the banks of the Rance, it also allows to admire beautiful aquatic scenery and take walks in the heart of nature.

The town has kept some monuments to discover the time of a few days stay in this country of sailors. market town with the production of new potatoes and cauliflower including Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets also turned to tourism to the delight of passing visitors.

Things to see and do

Quite old, the common Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets still presents some interesting sights to discover.

Built in the early eighteenth century, the St Malo Plussinais has been listed historical monument. It is an old country residence built by Saint-Malo ship owners, local stone coated with plaster.

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built in the mid-nineteenth century on the remains of the old religious building in the sixteenth century. It presents an interesting neo-Romanesque style, desired by the architect Malo, Jean-Gabriel Frangeul.

Many private mansions and castles take place Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets. One can admire from outside the castle of La Ville-es-Birds, one of the three oldest properties in the city. Built in the eighteenth century, the castle of St. Elier not lacking more interest with its dovecote.

Several chapels line the roads Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets like Sainte-Anne-du Tertre chapel of the nineteenth century, the St. Charles Chapel and Saint Christopher of the late seventeenth century, or the St. Francis chapel which depends on the St Malo the Plussinais.

One can find three islands on the Rance, Harteau the island is private, the island Moines and Chevret island. You can still see the ruins of a chapel of the fifteenth century on the Ile aux Moines. They are now protected nature reserves, banned in the spring and summer.

The mill Quinard tide, built in the nineteenth century, stopped its activity in the early twentieth century.

Events and festivities

A small market takes place every Thursday morning Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets.

Dedicated to young audiences, the Gallo-Pins the festival moved into the city in October. It proposes to introduce little ones to all art forms through shows and workshops.
