Ecomuseum located in the municipality of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, in the Vendée department, the museum of La Bourrine du Bois Juquaud is an authentic set of earthen constructions covered with reeds and testifying to the daily life of the inhabitants of the Marais Poitevin in the early twentieth century.
Consisting of a riverbank, the site is dedicated to the presentation of the habits and customs of the market garden countries of northwestern Vendée between the nineteenth and twentieth century. The museum of La Bourrine du Bois Juquaud is divided into three parts, the reception and the shop, a room dedicated to temporary exhibitions, and a last offering a playful multimedia space dedicated to local traditions.
In the bourrine, you can discover the kitchen, the room and the oven, and around, the barn, the large and the small gallery, the shed or the dairy. Activities are regularly offered, and the site organizes guided tours between June and September.
Nearby, after your visit, you will be able to discover the ancient Mattes dunes, not far from the marsh, and appreciate the local fauna and flora.
