Municipality of Blayais, in the department of Gironde, Saint-Genès-de-Blaye takes place five kilometers only from Blaye and about fifty kilometers from the very tourist town of Bordeaux. Small wine village implanted in the heart of the appellation Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, it is located along the Estuary of La Gironde.
Inhabited at the Gallo-Roman era, Saint-Genès-de-Blaye also unveils in its center a Merovingian well. After a peaceful story turned around the wine and his delights, the town was illustrated during the Second World War with Operation Frankton. It is in Ségonzac, neighboring hamlet, that the English commando finished his kayak trip after removing the Montalivet estuary to Bordeaux to put mines on enemy boats. Only two soldiers on the ten parties with the commando will survive this unique mission.
Quieter today, however, the village continues to attract visitors with its authentic charm, its wine production, but also its interesting architectural and cultural heritage.
