Things to see and do

The town Saint-Gal-sur-Sioule mark the end of the gorges of Chouvigny.

The Romanesque church of the twelfth century, a single nave and two side chapels, is topped by a bell tower, as found on many small chapels in the Sioule Valley.

We meet at the corner of some paths, stone crosses some very ornate. Perhaps to remind hikers that Jacques Du Vivier, lord of the sixteenth century, was also a Knight of Malta. Drigouts of the cross is in the village on a road passing behind the church and leading to a place called "the Drigouts". It is a small granite cross vaguely square, on the corner of a low wall, in the undergrowth, with a big head christ to inform, to the elongated body and spindly legs apart at périzonium nonexistent. These cross and their neighbors may be related to the important and close to Abbey Ebreuil (the twelfth century), and the presence of monks in the region (in the ninth century). It is precisely during this century that the pagan symbol of the sun was Christianized.
