Saint-Gal-sur-Sioule, in Auvergne, in the Combrailles region located along the meandering river which meanders Sioule invites you to escape in the heart of unspoilt nature.
The name comes from the town of Saint Gal (otherwise called Gallus Clermont) who was bishop of Clermont from 525 to 511. The village church has a statue of its patron saint. The termination of the name refers to the geographical location. Indeed, the river Sioule constitutes the northern and eastern boundaries of the municipal territory. Formerly the town called Saint-Gal just! As of February 20, 1927, the municipal council of the time, requested further name to avoid confusion with the town of Saint-Gal Lozère particular. And thus, by order dated August 9, 1927, the commune of Saint-Gal became Saint-Gal-sur-Sioule.
Its inhabitants call the St. Galois and St. Galoises.

The Romanesque church of the twelfth century, a single nave and two side chapels, is topped by a bell tower, as found on many small chapels in the Sioule Valley.
We meet at the corner of some paths, stone crosses some very ornate. Perhaps to remind hikers that Jacques Du Vivier, lord of the sixteenth century, was also a Knight of Malta. Drigouts of the cross is in the village on a road passing behind the church and leading to a place called "the Drigouts".
