City of more than 5000 inhabitants, Saint-Étienne-au-Mont takes place in the department of Pas-de-Calais. Five kilometers from Boulogne-sur-Mer, it lies about fifty kilometers of Dover. The town is divided into two parts, de-Bricks Bridge which hosts the center of Sainte-Étienne-au-Mont, and Ecault located on the Opal Coast. Formerly called

Audisque during the Revolution, the northern city took its current name in 1937, referring to Mount St. Stephen which houses the church Ecault. Occupied since ancient times, the city of Saint-Étienne-au-Mont suffered extensive damage during the Second World War. Now rebuilt, the town of Pas-de-Calais now presents a natural and cultural heritage of the most interesting.

Things to see and do

Stretching over several kilometers, the municipality of Saint-Étienne-au-Mont presents a historical and natural importance.

Built between the mid-seventeenth century and the late eighteenth century, the castle of de-Bricks Bridge was classified as an historic monument. Former headquarters of Napoleon at the Boulogne camp in the early nineteenth century, it served as an orphanage before being occupied in part by the Community of agglomeration of Boulogne. One can discover such a small museum tracing the history of the Camp de Boulogne, and the intimacy of Napoleon. The castle consists of a main building with two wings.

Registered Historic Monument, Castle Audisque was built in the mid eighteenth century.

Walking through the city and its surroundings, visitors discover Arena, an environmental interpretation center, or the beautiful St. Therese church dating from the late nineteenth century.

Part of the communal cemetery contains a square welcoming Chinese workers graves and South African employees during the First World War by the British.

A memorial bust takes place in the forest Ecault while we can admire a chapel at Pont-de-Bricks.

Saint-Étienne-au-Mont has always emphasized its dynamism and gaiety to offer diverse and varied events.
