Saint-Cosme-en-Vairais is one of the main centers of emigration Perche to New France (Quebec) in the 17th century. Julien Fortin, direct maternal ancestor of Madonna originated. Although having no direct opening to the sea, the perch has sent during the 17th century many of its people for the colonization of New France. Builders, lumberjacks, laborers from the perch were the first to "make the earth". We found the testimony not only in the names of their descendants but also in the French spoken in the St Lawrence which is closely related to spoken language even now by the inhabitants of the country Percheron.
