Charming village Saône-et-Loire, Burgundy, Franche-Comté Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux takes place about fifty kilometers from Macon, close to 400 meters. It covers almost 3000 hectares, near Chiddes, Saint-André-le-Désert and Mornay.
Long rural commune, Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux has always been oriented agriculture and livestock. It is mainly developed in the course of the Middle Ages, especially with the construction of his castle. The stables of the chateau of Chaumont in Charolais, open to the public are located in the municipality of Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux in Saône-et-Loire, between Cluny and Charolles, on a hill, on the border of the former stronghold of the Charolais and the Duchy of Burgundy. The estate is LaGuiche family residence (formerly "La Guiche") since the fifteenth century.
These are one of the largest private stables of Old Regime in France, built between 1648 and 1652 under the order of Henriette de La Guiche, for her husband Louis Emmanuel de Valois, Duke of Angoulême, grand-son King Charles IX by architect François Blondel, King's engineer, future director of the Royal Academy of Architecture under Louis XIV. This equestrian palace, very ornate, has the proportions of a Burgundian barn. Two very tall chimney stacks stand at the base of the front wall; the building of the center, the main portal is surmounted by a niche with the equestrian statue of Philibert de la Guiche, Grand Master of the King Artillery, under Henry III and Henry IV 2, having saved the Protestants of Mâcon in the St. Bartholomew. The interior arrangement corresponds in all respects to the stable ideal Leonardo da Vinci, even in its proportions. Legend has it that these were stables to house 99 horses, maximum number allowed for a gentleman, only the king can dispose more. The stables, private property open to the public.
Set in the woods, at the extreme tip of granite tops, Château des Hauts was built in the mid-nineteenth century. private property, it is not currently accessible to the public.
Do not forget to admire the Church of the mid-nineteenth century that takes place on the remains of an older building. In the early 1990s, a metal rooster was added to the top of the steeple.
In July, the town offers a farmers' market and craftsmen with some animations.
