Small picturesque village in Gard, Saint-André-de-Majencoules is located in the heart of the Cévennes, in an exceptional natural setting. This rural commune with three natural areas of ecological, fauna and flora interest, takes place in the Vigan catchment area, not far from Mandagout, Saint-Julien-de-la Nef and Roquedur.
The one which takes its name from the Latin Majorès collès, meaning large hills, developed mainly in the 12th century with the construction of a priory by Benedictine monks. Long known for the cultivation of sweet onions, now AOC, and pippin apples, the commune of Saint-André-de-Majencoules was once a major place for silk production.
A rich architectural heritage bears witness to these great times.
