Saint-André

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Savoie

Village from 1000 to 3400 meters, land of welcome, often occupied by military troops, Saint-André yet retains a sense of welcome and friendliness tradition. Peaceful village on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, it can happen to you, like Chateaubriand staying formerly Saint-André, hear "song of the nightingale and cry of an eagle through the sky."

If you spend the end of summer in the village, do not leave without tasting plum Saint-André. This local variety of blond soft flesh and fragrant, easy to prune pit, was renowned in the country. In the past, people of high and low Maurienne reserved well in advance crops from local producers. Probable result of selection by generations of mountaineers, this plum part of local heritage as rare species or historical monuments deserves our attention.
