Commune of the Grand-Est region, Rupt-sur-Moselle is located in the department of Vosges, about thirty kilometers from Epinal. It takes place in the heart of the massif of the Vosges, between 400 and 900 meters of altitude. Limitrophe of the Haute-Saône department, it unveils incredible mountain landscapes.

Created in 1789, following the French Revolution, the commune of Rupt-sur-Moselle, often called simply Rupt, was formed with part of the ban of Longchamp. Former municipality of the Duchy of Lorraine to which it belonged in the Middle Ages, it was long turned towards agriculture, before knowing a major industrial revolution in the XIXth century, mainly centered on the textile.

Today, the city of Vosges is mainly oriented towards the tourism of middle mountain, proposing in particular several marked hiking trails.

Things to see and do

Built after the War of 1870, the fort of Rupt can still be admired from the outside. Still owned by the French armed forces, the entrance to the building was walled up to avoid possible accidents. Military personnel are still being trained on a regular basis.

The church of Saint-Etienne dates from the beginning of the XVIIIth century. Enlarged in the middle of the XIXth century, it presents an organ dating from the same time, as well as a stone statue of an abbess with a crosier.

Several mountain bike trails are proposed to discover the town, but also its surrounding landscapes. Extending from five to sixteen kilometers, they offer an exceptional view of the Vosges region.

Several crosses take place on the territory of the commune, but the most important remains that of Parier which is installed at 610 meters above sea level, dominating the city. It is the goal of a beautiful walk in the woods with an incredible view of the Moselle valley.

As you walk through the streets of Rupt-sur-Moselle, you can discover the Saint-Etienne chapel, the Saint-Roch chapel and its cross, or the regional nature reserve of the Tourbière des Charmes. Classified, it can be enjoyed via a unique hiking trail, so as not to damage the soil of the bog.

A recreation and sports complex offers the possibility of enjoying a fun course, sports fields or a cycling race and a picnic area.

A flea market is organized every year at the beginning of June.

Every third Saturday in March, the city offers its famous herring fair. Existing since the end of the XIXth century, it proposes in particular a living room of the wine and the soil, tastings of herring and agricultural demonstrations.

In August, place at Feux Folies and its many animations. On the program of the event, a village of artisans, musical animations, but especially an impressive pyrotechnic spectacle.

In November, the celebration of the game allows to discover a large number of new board games or other entertainment.
