Small fortress of XIe century installed in Rougemont-le-Château, on the Territoire de Belfort, the castle of Rougemont is a site now registered with the Historical Monuments. Installed at more than 730 meters of altitude, it dominates the door of Burgundy for a purpose entirely defensive at the origin.
Former property of the Counts of Ferrette, the castle of Rougemont was originally to protect the Roman road from Langres and along the Vosges mountains. Burned and destroyed at the beginning of the 14th century by Enguerrand de Coucy, the building underwent a major restoration campaign at the end of the 1970s. The objects found on site are now visible at the Belfort museum.
From now on, the fort is accessible free to the public, but not easy to access.
