Things to see and do

City Roquemaure boasts an important historical heritage through monuments recalling all the times that marked the region.

Built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the Cathedral Saint-Jean-Baptiste presents a beautiful example of Provencal Gothic style. It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of winemakers in the Côte du Rhône, and St. John the Evangelist, the coopers. Listed historical monument, it houses within it a beautiful organ came from the convent of the Cordeliers Avignon. It is also possible to see a bust of Pope Clement V, the relics of Saint Valentine, a buffet or from the early nineteenth century.

Castle Roquemaure probably would date from the twelfth or thirteenth century. There are now only two of the original seven towers: the square tower of the Carthaginians, culminating a watchtower over forty meters, and the tower of the Queen, dedicated to Mary of Brittany, wife of the Duke of Anjou.

The priory of Truel is a Romanesque chapel which was once the center of a priory. Once fortified, it belonged to the Templars time and today houses a listed Romanesque trellis. In the same village, the castle of Truel is one of the architectural jewels of Roquemaure. It houses the Saint-Sauveur chapel, and has no less than three levels.

Roquemaure knows, regularly highlight its past and its traditions to entertain its residents and visitors.

Roquemaure The weekly market is held every Tuesday morning from 8 am to 13h. A Christmas market is held in December.

Every other year, the weekend closest to Valentine, Roquemaure offers its famous celebration of Valentine's Day, with a big pageant reviving the heyday of the city. On the occasion, more than 800 costumed people emphasize the face of the city in the nineteenth century, with a feast of popular knowledge and old crafts, traditional music concerts, a market with old, or very popular festival of barrel organs.
