Rochefort-du-Gard is a town of just over 7600 inhabitants located in the extreme east of the Gard department. It takes place not far from Avignon, Orange, or Nimes and Montpellier.

According to the remains found in the twentieth century, the city of Rochefort-du-Gard dates back to the late Paleolithic. Nice and full of life, it hosts still an important historical heritage dating back in parts of the Middle Ages. At that time, Rochefort-du-Gard was the seat of a barony comprising in particular cities like Pujault, Valliguieres or Estézargues and Fournès.

Perfectly located, this city of Gard is ideal for discovering the most beautiful sights in this part of southern France and spend a few beautiful days of vacation. Wine lovers will be seduced by the Sinargues AOC vineyards and Côtes-du-Rhône villages surrounding the city.

Things to see and do

City Rochefort-du-Gard is a paradise for lovers of history and old buildings thanks to its numerous monuments.

Built in 1729, St. Joseph's chapel has been converted into town hall in the early nineteenth century. The stones of the old castle of the city were used to build it.

Inaugurated in 1849, the Saint-Bardulphe church has a charming Gothic architecture. Its facade, similar to that of Saint-Pons Sommières church does not lack charm, like the interior with its marble altars and paintings of the Passion of Christ.

The Castelas was the first church dedicated to St. Rochefort-du-Gard Bardulphe. It once was in the feudal enclosure overlooking the entire city. Partly in ruins, it is used today for exhibitions and other cultural events.

Built in the Carolingian period, the sanctuary Notre-Dame-de-Grâce was ravaged during the eighteenth century, before being restored monastery in the course of the nineteenth century.

Impressive, aqueduct Signargues is one of the great attractions Rochefort-du-Gard. Built in the course of the nineteenth century, still stands proudly.

Located in the heart of the city, the Fountain of the Angel was rebuilt in the 2000s still has many original features.

Rochefort-du-Gard The market is held every Sunday morning from 8am to 13h.

In June, up to the feast of Saint John with the parade to lanterns or traditional ball.

The votive festival is held every year in July with many events such as the traditional aioli.

The Christmas market and its famous fair Santon moved every year in December.
