It seems that the Argent Double has hosted on its banks a city from the Gallo-Roman. Many "house" surrounded his bed as evidenced by the archives ... Near the river, "Al Rius" could be the source of the name. And to distinguish it from other Rieux, it is followed by the qualifier of Minervois in reference to the ancient "Pago Minerbensis" known since Roman times: it is already in a charter of Charles the Bald in the year 855 " Pago Minarbensi "applied to the region. The village would have been born around a castrum around 1000 taking successively the names of Rieux, Mérinville Rieux-Minervois and definitively in the 19th century: hence the name of the inhabitants of Rieux: the mérinvillois and mérinvilloises.
Between sea and mountain gastronomy: foie gras, bouillabaisse sétoise, cassoulet, wines, varietals and AOC Minervois.
