The Locmaria priory garden is located at Quimper, on the banks of the Odet river, near a Romanesque church which once served a priory housing nuns.
The city's famous earthenware factories are also located in this historic district.
The garden was laid out in 1997 in keeping with the spirit of monastic gardens at the time of Queen Anne of Brittany (1477-1514). Religious symbols are also very present there.
A kiosk housing a fountain has been set up in the center, recalling the symbolic values of water, synonymous with life and purification, and a pergola made of oak evokes the celestial vault. Finally, the paths of the garden represent crosses.
Covering an area of 1700 m², enclosed by walls which add to the mystical but also romantic character of the site, the garden includes squares dedicated to the crops presented there, slates being used as mulch or decorative support. Labeled Remarkable Garden and Ecological Green Space (Eve), the garden brings together some 150 species of plants (some of which have become rare), having edible, aromatic, medicinal or decorative virtues: namely violets, foxgloves, belladonna, safflower, thistle -marie, columbines, ladies' juliennes, vipérines, but also roses or fruit trees. Each plant is presented under its name in French and its Latin name.
