The Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church is located in the commune of Quenne, in the Yonne department, a few kilometers southeast of Auxerre.
It was built at the beginning of the 12th century and Hugues de Mâcon, the bishop of Auxerre from 115 to 1136, donated it to the canons of Auxerre. It remained under their authority throughout the medieval period.
However, only the facade and the three-sided apse remain from the Romanesque period.
The single nave of two bays and the choir were remodeled in the 15th and 16th centuries in a Gothic and Renaissance style.
On the facade, in addition to the columns with capitals, a beautiful rose window with eight rays seems to revolve around a central circle where a representation of the Nativity appears.
Inside are preserved a carved wooden pulpit from the 17th century, a painting representing the Presentation in the Temple (16th century) and a sculpted cast iron Christ, the work of the artist François Girardon (17th century).
A Virgin known as the Apocalypse from the 17th century is finally classified as an object.
The church listed in the Inventory was very recently equipped with a stained glass window made by a local craftsman to perpetuate the memory of five members of the same family from the town, who disappeared in the plane crash of Sharm el Sheikh in 2004.
