Charming little village in the Aude in Occitan region Puivert set at the foot of the Pyrenees, in the heart of Cathar country loaded with history and mystery. It is located on the edge of the Ariege, near Mirepoix and Montbel Le Peyrat, about fifty kilometers from the famous walled city of Carcassonne.
Very old, the common Puivert was from the eleventh century, in the hands of the counts of the Spanish March, under the jurisdiction of the princes of Aragon, before changing hands afterwards. It was known at the time for its great cultural and artistic wealth, thanks to its high concentration of minstrels and troubadours who came then to share their talent at the castle. The most famous encounters took place in the late twelfth century with the presence of the greatest artists of the time like Bernard de Ventadour or e Martina Rosina de Peira.
Today Puivert continues to attract visitors passing through its rich architecture and its beautiful landscapes.
