Built at the initiative of Ferréol Lallemand (Pontarlier priest from 1848 to 1870), the Chapel of Our Lady of Hope is Gothic Revival.

Cholera epidemics of the 19th century who saved Pontarlier, Father Lallemand decided to dedicate a chapel to the Virgin to thank her for her protection. The inauguration of the Chapel of the Ascension in 1861 was the occasion of a great demonstration of popular piety. A statue of the Virgin and Child statue replaced the original (1862) destroyed by a storm.
