Pontarlier is a town in the mountains located at 837 m altitude in the heart of the Jura Mountains.
Capital of the Haut-Doubs, Pontarlier is the gateway to a very large protected nature area, where the forest, the lakes and the green pastures indispensable to the manufacture of the Mont d'Or and the County.
Pontarlier became known throughout the world thanks to the production of absinthe at the beginning of the last century. Today the city has renewed this tradition since two distilleries produce absinthe again.
