City Pont-de-l'Isère is located in the department of Drôme, more precisely on the 45th parallel. The name of this village comes from simply building a bridge over the Isère river which was erected in the nineteenth century to replace an old wooden bridge that had been destroyed. The presence of people on this territory is attested since Roman times. A major road are going into effect.
The whole area is known for its rich orchards, in particular the production of peaches, apricots and cherries. The city hosts the largest wholesale market of fruits and vegetables throughout the Rhone-Alpes region. This wholesale market has existed since 1942 and attracts many small farmers who come to sell their production.
