Pomeys

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Rhône

Bourg du Rhône, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Pomeys is located on the edge of the Loire department, not far from Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise, Grézieu-le-Marché and La Chapelle-sur-Coise.

According to local history, the commune of Pomeys, formerly known as Saint-Martin-de-Pomeys, was born from the passage of the apostle of the French countryside, Saint Martin. He would have stopped at the inexhaustible fountain installed on site and would have left the mark of his stick there.

In all cases of ancient origin, the city continues to attract visitors today thanks to an architectural heritage testifying to a rich and fascinating history.

Things to see and do

Fortified in the 16th century, Pluvy Castle is today the property of the commune of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise. Completely restored at the end of the 19th century, it now houses the offices of the Communauté de Communes des Monts du Lyonnais.

Passing through Pomeys, don't forget to admire the Château de Saconay. Built in the 16th century on an older building, it has preserved several vestiges of its medieval era. Very well preserved, the building is open to guided tours in the summer, revealing its four round towers.

The Saint-Martin church, from the mid-19th century, is also worth a detour. It took place on an older church with a single nave.

You can also go to La Neylière, a Marist reception house housing an interesting museum on Oceania.

Several trails are also accessible towards Lac des Hurongues.

Events and festivities

In February, it's time for a lively meal of the famous local cabbage soup.

Concerts are organized in June on the occasion of the Music Festival.
