Plouider

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Finistère

Located between land and sea, the town of Plouider takes place in the heart of Finistère, not far from Saint-Meen, Treflez or Lanhouarneau.

Originally a parish of primitive Armorica founded in the 6th century, the town of Plouider is known for human occupation dating back to prehistoric times. Agricultural city centered on the cultivation of cereals and flax as well as on breeding in the 18th century, it experienced a new boom at the end of the following century with the arrival of the railway and the Landerneau - Plounéour-Trez line.

Plouider is now a popular vacation spot, especially for its hiking trails by the sea or for its traditional architectural heritage.

Things to see and do

Rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century, the Saint-Didier church is one of the many examples of religious architecture present in the town of Plouider. It consists of a nave of four bays with a built-in bell tower and a two-bay choir. Inside, it is possible to admire several statues of Saint Didier, Saint Eloi, Saint François-Xavier or Saint Agathe. While passing through this region, you can also discover the 16th century Saint-Fiacre chapel or the Notre-Dame des Malades chapel. Built in the second half of the 19th century, this neo-Gothic building was completely restored at the end of the 1990s.

Passing through Plouider, you can also admire the many calvaries or other crosses that mark out the Breton town.

Plouider also reveals on its territory many manors from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries like those of Kerozet, Lestevennoc, Kerivin, Torraneac'h, Kerouriou or Beuzit. While strolling through the town, do not miss to discover the old mills, the Karmabon washhouse, the Kerbervaz dolmen or the Veuleury blockhouses, sad vestiges of the Second World War. Near the station, the Poul Sant Dider wash house is also worth a detour, as is the Gallic bridge.
