Renamed in the second half of the 19th century Feste Alvensleben, the fort of Plappeville takes place in the heart of the Moselle. As part of the defensive system of the forts of Metz, the building was particularly important during the Battle of Metz at the end of 1944, during the Second World War.
Today in ruins, it was partly destroyed by American bombings in the mid-1940s.
