The airport of Perpignan-Rivesaltes, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, originates from the airfield of Llabanère, inaugurated in 1923. It is very quickly a regular stopover for the pilots of the Aéropostale who go to Africa of North.
After the Second World War, the site is also popular with charter aircraft that contribute to the development of tourism on the nearby Costa Brava. This development of traffic justified the development of a new terminal in the 1960s.
Officially became international airport of Perpignan-Rivesaltes in 1977, with two paved tracks (one of 2.5 km, the other 1.2 km), it recorded 410 000 passengers in 2017 and offers daily connections with Paris and multi-weekly flights to or from major French cities (Lille, Nantes, Bastia), European cities (London, Dublin, Brussels-Charleroi in particular) and North-Africa (Oran, Marrakech).
The proximity of Toulouse has also enabled the development of a maintenance center for Airbus and Boeing aircraft and a technical flight test center for the new Airbus aircraft.
