The first inhabitants of Péret lived there, there are five thousand years. From them, there is only the dry stone walls of their homes and the crucibles where they melted copper. It is claimed that there are more than two thousand years, an elephant herd of Hannibal, lost, came to frighten children. To better defend the village was built on a rocky slope Malhubert, enclosed by walls and four towers. As Péret there (eleventh century), there remains only the Saint Felix church, the tower and five porches. You have to climb up to the fort by taking the Colbert and Boileau streets. Above all we must find the road hand drifts above the village go past the Notre Dame des Buis, continue. It is a vision that is offered under. It's an abundance of scenery, rugged, rustic, sky, of faïsses, scrubland, vineyards and vines planted in straight lines. Here and there a squat shelter, capitelle. Sit down and embrace the entire region. Behind you the Cevennes, Péret your feet before you the plain of the Hérault river. In the distance, shrouded in a trembling mist, the dark mass of the Mediterranean...

On site, post, public school (kindergarten and primary), shops (grocery, bakery, hairdresser, beauty salon), itinerant trade (shell and fishmonger Thursday morning, rotisserie Sunday pizza on Wednesday and Saturday), equipment leisure (Peyral the hall, cinema / theater Jacques Brel, tennis / basketball courts, skate park, playground, bowling...).

The Péret economic life of the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century: the economic life in the Middle Ages is very different from the one we know today: in total isolation, the only concern is to survive and escape the famine and to epidemics raging in those times. In these centuries, the plain south of the village is marshy part: meadows and pastures, rushes, lots of water. Agricultural activity takes place mainly on the hill overlooking Péret. The olive tree is an important part. There are several herds. In the early eighteenth century we will see develop in the cloth industry area through the work of Colbert, then the Cardinal de Fleury, a native of Lodeve. Péret by 1729 ordinance is attached to the factory Villeneuvette expanding. Here the diversity of economic and commercial activity in the nineteenth century through the list of various trades present at Péret in 1867 (Second Empire): notary, gunsmith, saddler, cafes, commission, sheets, brandy, grocers, flours, oils, pharmacist, rolling, veterinarian, wholesale wine.

Péret, land of vineyards: In the village, for centuries, the vine was a culture among others: the olive tree, pasture for flocks, the plains are a polyculture place. The little wine produced is simply for personal consumption. It is in the eighteenth century that this culture is widespread. Péret turns into monoculture countries. In the early nineteenth century, the vine is the main source of income Pérétois, mainly due to the railroad that allowed the transport of goods. This is the beginning of the golden age of the vines. But in 1875 all the vineyards were ravaged by phylloxera, an insect that destroys the roots of the vine. All the struggles means prove ineffective. This gave the village a disaster, tens of Pérétois expatriated. In 1885, the US said planes, graft, used to recover the culture of the vine. In the twentieth century, this culture has known wine crisis (1906), the First World War (1914) but gets up every time. Then this culture is modernized. In 1929 appears the notion of degree; in 1932, the creation of winemaking cooperative ("join together to better defend"); in 1950, the steam horse replaces Horse line; in 1970, the tractors used to work larger areas. Today, the wine must be of quality, it is not the quantity that counts. New labels appeared (AOC AOC). The vine is constantly changing: the latest is the harvesting machine.

The great events of national history associated Péret: The Albigensian Crusade in the thirteenth century: the northern barons took to the Languedoc to eradicate the Cathar religion. It seems that Péret has not suffered directly from this crusade, which ravaged Beziers, Minerve, despite the presence of a great preacher Cathar in Roujan, second Guilhabert Castres. The Hundred Years War: The village was pillaged by a band of "road" that had been expelled from the kingdom. They occupied the castle of Cabrières. The Duke of Anjou, governor of Languedoc, moved his troops to Péret, those it aimed to deliver the castle of Cabrières. The inglorious way to get rid of these looters was to buy their retirement. The dramatic events of the village (1870): In the late 1870s, a miller Dourbie had innocently Poured lead to make flat old millstones were grinding grain; imperceptibly to lead dust mingled with the flour. Dozens of Pérétois them died from this poisoning (lead poisoning).

The caver Pérétois Michel Siffre: To channel his boundless energy, at the age of 10, his father made him discover and explore a cave near the village (Roca Blanca): Michel vocation was born. At 13, he was admitted to Nice caving club, at 17 he made several reports to the Academy of Sciences. At 21, he won a scholarship by the jury of the Foundation aims to mount a caving mission in Ceylon. At 23, he entered the history of caving in the massive Maguareïs attempting its first underground life experience: 60 days under land in sub-zero temperature without showing or benchmarks, faced his only biological clock. He first demonstrated that the spontaneous duration of the human sleep-wake rhythm was more than 24 hours (24h30mn) and establishes the endogenous nature deep circadian rhythm of humans. It is the first human to have made a long experience underground. NASA very interested, examines the results of Michael. At 33, he went to America for a second epic out of time, remaining isolated 200 days in a cave in Texas, this time with far greater resources. He advanced the science of biological rhythms, psychological time, sleep and dream. Some years pass, his fame fades a little. Then in 2000, at the age of 61, Michael had the idea to see the effect of aging on the human biological breaks. He spent 74 days underground in the cave Clamouse. The event is well publicized. Péret is proud that caver is the country!
