Museum of Fine Art of Pau

Leisure centre in Pau

Founded in the second half of the 19th century, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pau is the second most important museum in Aquitaine due to the wealth of its collections. Installed since 1931 in a magnificent building inspired by Byzantine art and with some elements of Greek architecture, it owes its wealth, in particular, to the legacy of Louis La Caze, French doctor and philanthropist of the 19th century.

Visitors can admire here major works of Western painting from the 16th century to the contemporary era, including paintings by Jordaens, Carlo Maratta, Bassano, Carle Van Loo, Edouard Vuillard, Eugène Boudin or Camille Corot.

Two thematic temporary exhibitions are also offered each year, and the museum team organizes cultural activities suitable for all audiences, such as guided tours, workshops, plays, concerts and conferences.
