The Georges Turpin museum is located in the town of Parthenay, in the Deux-Sèvres department.
Also called the "museum of art and history", the municipal establishment has been housed since 1993 in the historic center of the city, within the medieval district, and it is one of the components of the Maison des Country Cultures.
Dedicated to the collector and art lover Georges Turpin, originally from of the 19th century.
Benefiting from a modern museography, it presents its medieval and modern collections on the first floor. The local history from the Middle Ages to the 18th century is thus explained via a model and ceramics from different periods, a collection of coins, archaeological objects as well as goldwork are exhibited.
On the second floor, dedicated to contemporary collections, the development of the city since the 1960s is discussed. Furthermore, the public discovers a unique collection retracing the history of local earthenware with the works of Prosper Jouneau, 'Henri Amirault and Edouard Knoëpflin.
Temporary exhibitions are also regularly scheduled, and thematic guided tours or those reserved for young audiences, workshops and various events are also offered.
