Former mansion located in the 7th district of Paris, the Legion of Honor Palace is also known as the Salm Hotel. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it became the property of the national order of the Legion of Honor in 1804 before being reworked a few years later.
Today, the building houses the National Museum of the Legion of Honor and Orders of Chivalry. Listed as an historic monument, it has a beautiful courtyard with an entrance arch of triumph and a colonnade of Doric order.
At the end of the nineteenth century, a devastating fire destroyed the beautiful façades today remodeled. On occasion, the interior decoration has been redesigned to highlight the Legion of Honor. While browsing the building, you will be able to admire the large vestibule enlightened by a glass roof and embellished by a green stucco decoration, the living room of the houses with its paintings of the daily life of the big houses of education like Ecouen, Saint-Denis or Les Lodges, the grand chancellors' lounge where the Legion of Honor ceremony takes place, the Rotonde salon illustrating the great periods of French history, the dawn salon, the Muse room or even more. the dining room. The latter, installed on the site of the former 18th century gallery, unveils an impressive painting depicting Napoleon II's second display of insignia of the Legion of Honor, the ceremony of the Boulogne Camp by Philippe Hennequin.
