Located in the traditional site of the National Library of France, rue de Richelieu in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, the Cabinet of Medals aims to highlight and preserve the numismatic and antique collections of the BNF.

The oldest museum in France open to the public, it is the direct heir to the cabinet of the medals of the kings of France. This department hosts collections of jewelry, engraved stones, sculptures and antique ceramics, and medals collected by the kings of France since the Middle Ages.

In the end, more than 520,000 coins and medals are housed in the Museum of Medals at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. The site also unveils Egyptian, Greek and Roman statues, Etruscan ceramics, the throne of Dagobert, the treasure of Gourdon, or various objects of art from the treasure of Saint-Denis and Sainte-Chapelle.
