- His situation :
- Pargny is located on the tourist route of Champagne, the first village of the Regional Park arriving in Reims in the heart of the vineyard, and the gates of the city.
- The village currently has about 500 Pargnysois professionally almost equally divided between farm businesses: wineries and a farmer, professionals and active population working mainly in Reims.
- From the intersection of RD 26 and 380 traffic lights to Pargny, the village is 9 km from the forecourt of the Cathedral of Reims, 5 km from TGV Bezannes and 4 km from the headquarters of the Community of Communes Champagne-Vesle in Gueux.
- We are here at the foot of the "Petite Montagne de Reims", with 240 North Coast, dominating Coulommes and was the scene of fighting in the Second Battle of the Marne in 1918; Sector villages were then destroyed to 80%, and this is where Lili childhood friend of Marcel Pagnol was killed. In "The Time of Secrets", the Southern writer evokes the tragedy: "In 1918, in a dark forest of the North, a bullet in the forehead had cut his young life, and he fell in the rain, on tufts cold plants. "
- To the south rises Mount Saint Linked with the famous view of the vineyards and Villedommange Sacy and the Reims basin.
- At the end of the nineteenth century, the hill was split from one trench to facilitate the passage of the line of the famous Reims Dormans CBR (Railway of the Suburbs of Reims), the restored train station is home to the charming boutique now a florist.
- Pargny has the distinction of being divided into two residential areas separated by vineyards: the village elder in the church sector, "Pargny high" and the road sector Dormans, where activities are concentrated commercial. In between, the band-town schools. This is the legacy of the installation in this pleasant western Reims the Werle family whose descendants are still the main landowners of the village. In the second half of the nineteenth century, Count Alfred Werle decides to build a castle in the village. He bought the land of local farmers and offers them to settle in the area of the hamlet of the Petit Saint Martin, along the route Reims (RD 980). This sumptuous castle was completed in early 1900. During the Great War it was used as a military hospital. Bombed several times, it was destroyed by firebombs in June 1918. The ruins were used for reconstruction career throughout the area. Today, all that remains of this building a few sections of wall and the cooler the municipality strives to preserve. The park, planted by Mr. Redont, landscape Pommery Park is the setting for a private development, a MARPA (House Residential Home for Autonomous People), and implementation of a communal space.
- The CBR station:
- The Railway of the Suburbs of Reims is in the collective memory of the department, and even beyond. Before the Great War, he beamed star from Reims on nearly 400 km of meter gauge.
- The Reims-Dormans line was inaugurated March 20, 1903, as the Pargny station. There were 120 similar stations on the CBR lines.
- The village was the scene of several spectacular accidents which fortunately caused no casualties. If one believes the stories of elders, the rogues of the time were enjoying fat coat rails to prevent the locomotive to climb the "collar Pargny". The drive, however, were equipped with sand at the front to prevent slippage.
- Passenger transport was abandoned in the interwar period, before the competition cars, but the last convoys of goods circulated until the early 50s.
- The station was inhabited by the family of Mr. Rene Plume until the latter's death in 2007, to 93 years. Restored by the municipality, it includes rental housing and trade.
- The prison :
- Located on the outskirts of the village, away from other houses, this austere building was built in the late nineteenth century, funded by Count Alfred Werle, director of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.
- This building then served as a flophouse for tramps the country-garde gathered in the area. They were thus protected from the weather, but especially inspected to prevent pilferage night, hence the name prison.
- The church of Saint Martin portal
- The church itself dates probably part of the twelfth century as evidenced by the novel style bell tower and the nave, and the remains of corbels carved at the base of the apse. Thus this a drawing of Dr. Mohen (1818- 1895).
- The top of the same tower was destroyed during the bombing of the Second Battle of the Marne in June 1918.
- In the nineteenth century, Count Werle's endowed with a monumental gate with the statues of St. Remi and St. Barbara (probably in homage to Madame Clicquot, nee Ponsardin Beard), and provided with a beautiful wrought iron gate.
- This court was restored in 2005, with a municipal underwriting and financial participation of Veuve Clicquot and Sita Dectra.
- The source and cross Saint Martin:
- On the edge of the road to St Euphrasia, amid vineyards, stands a crucifix at the center of a grove.
- The current wrought iron cross, very simple, should not be very old. It stands on a small stone and brick structure that houses the source Saint Martin.
- This source was reputed to cure eye diseases. We went there once on a pilgrimage on the occasion of the patronal feast, a tradition that continued until 1959.
- In the past, there winemakers deposited their bottles cool while working in the area.
- From the rest area and picnic that has been converted, you can enjoy a remarkable view of the Reims basin and the wine and wooded hillsides of Pargny, Coulommes and Villedommange. You can also find out just above a conservatory in the vineyard, with different pipe sizes and former Champagne plans installed by a local winemaker.
