Near the Canal du Center, the arrival of the railway at Paray-le-Monial in 1867 was at the origin of the increase in the industrial activity of the city and the foundation, in 1877, by the ceramist Paul Charnoz, of a ceramic tile factory. By creating a range of stoneware tiles designed by encrustation in the mass, presented today at the Museum of Art and Industry Paul Charnoz, this industry was very quickly distinguished by the quality of its aesthetic and technical productions. These two particularly attractive communication channels, the Canal du Center and the railway, had contributed, from 1873, to the organization of pilgrimages celebrating the appearance of the Heart of Jesus to the Visitandine nun Marguerite-Marie Alacoque at the end of the 17th century, in the city now dedicated to the Sacred Heart. Thus, between a living spiritual heritage and its industrial past, the city of Paray-le-Monial today finds new developments.
