Located in the commune of Ottrott, in the Lower Rhine, the Kagenfels Castle is a former 13th century medieval castle. Located in the heart of the Obernai-Bernardswiller forest, it is now entirely in ruins.
Built by Albrecht Kage, then Minister of the Bishop of Strasbourg, it passes into the hands of different families over the centuries. Purchased by the city of Obernai in the mid-sixteenth century, it has enjoyed many seats before being definitively abandoned in the seventeenth century.
It is now the subject of a major campaign of archaeological excavations.
