At the heart of the chestnut forest, the town is located in the Dordogne about thirty miles from Sarlat.
There are traces of "Orlhac" from the 13th century, the "lh" to say the Great "li". This Latin name Orliacum come as much of name to "ac" from Latin and mean land of Aurelius or Aurelia Aurelian.
In 2008, the National Council of Cities and Villages in bloom de France has awarded a flower in common Contest towns and villages in bloom.
