Lac Blanc is located in the town of Orbey, in the Haut-Rhin, on the edge of the Vosges department, 30 km northwest of Colmar.
At an altitude of 1055 m, it occupies an old glacial cirque of the Vosges massif and its name originates from the crystalline sand that lines its bottom.
Covering an area of 29 hectares, Lac Blanc has a depth of up to 72 m in places.
