Beaufort is placed at the foot of the Revermont, which is a buttress between plain and plateau, 15 km south of Lons-le-Saunier, and crossed by a transit route between Lons-le-Saunier and Bourg-en-Bresse. It lies in a vineyard landscape of South Revermont.
The village owes its origin to its castle built in the 12th century, with ruins still visible and maintained, located on the slopes of Revermont.
The heart of the historic village consists of stones in the buildings and in the walls of fences.
The interesting towns around are Louhans 20 km, Saint-Amour 18 km, Orgelet and the land of lakes 30 km.
