Olmeto - Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Southern Corsica

Olmeto is a peaceful and picturesque old town, perched on a mountainside, overlooking the magnificent Gulf of Valinco. This vast county (4380 acres) sprawls on the slopes of the Punta di Buturettu and descends to the plain Baracci south-east, with the sea to the south and the plain Taravo west. Its heavily forested hills and gentle slopes are covered with oak and olive trees which were once the richness of this region.

Besides its location, which is also the beauty of this village, its houses are in high stone walls and old red-tiled roofs, vaulted passageways and narrow streets paved with rough stone, protected by towers and battlements loopholes. In the discovery of this village can be traced in time by visiting some places full of history, such as the last vestiges of the Capuchin convent were built in Corsica in 1711. Or the Church of St. Mary parish church in the Romanesque style of the 9th century, where you can admire the magnificent organ built in 1850. Or finally, the house where lived and died Colomba Bartoli Carabelli-famous heroine of the novel by Prosper Merimee.

This town now lives mainly from tourism, because it also has an important role seaside. She runs into effect its 20 km of beaches along the Gulf of Valinco water clear and deep blue. At a place called Olmeto-Beach, where many residences, you can enjoy sandy beaches and small sandy coves lined with boulders.
