City of the Loiret, Olivet takes place in a region classified as a world heritage of the UNESCO, Center-Val de Loire. It is located about four kilometers from Orleans, not far from Fleury-les-Aubrais or Saint-Denis-en-Val.

The town of Olivet became a village in the eleventh century under the name of Saint-Martin-du-Loiret, before it developed in the seventeenth century. Construction of the castle of Poutyl. During the centuries following, the town gradually transformed into a high place of vacation, the mills becoming dwellings or guinguettes.

Full of charm, Olivet has an architectural and historical heritage that seduces its visitors. The town has a certain calm, as well as an authenticity that makes you want to stay a few days in the heart of this part of the Loiret. Lovers of flavors will also love the local specialty, a sweet and very old cherry.

Things to see and do

Inscribed in the Historic Monuments, the church of Saint Martin was built between the XIIth and the XIXth century. Inside, one can admire a very beautiful altarpiece of the eighteenth century with a painting of Saint Martin listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments as an object.

Do not miss to discover the Aignan-Thomas Desfriches space and its free glass windows. Green, blue and yellow, these real works of art bring an unreal aspect to this chapel full of charm and interest.

Launched in the early 1950s, the Flower Clock presents a new ornamentation based on flowers and other living plants to brighten up the commune. The site also has a buried clock system.

On the banks of the Loiret, for a stroll, you can admire the Swiss Chalet, a construction of the Universal Exhibition of Paris of 1900 disassembled and rebuilt in the city. The Loiret is also bordered by several private castles to admire, like the castle of Poutyl at the end of the 16th century, the castle of Isambert, the castle of Beauvoir or the castle of Villebourgeon.

The castle of La Fontaine, built in the sixteenth century, unveils a park today classified. Beautiful examples of the architecture of the 17th and 19th century gardens can be found here. It harmoniously blends the classical and English styles, notably revealing massifs and lawns on a gentle slope, as well as a large number of tree species.

Several hiking trails have been built on the banks of the Loiret, allowing to admire the rich architectural heritage of Olivet, like this garage built by the architect Charles Garnier.

In the city, one can still see the portal of the castle of Rondon today registered with the Historic Monuments.

Events and festivities

The market is held on Wednesday morning and Friday at the end of the afternoon. The city also offers a Christmas market at the end of the year.

The Caves festival extends and comes until Olivet in May. The event highlights several shows to be discovered in the city.

In June, the arts festival offers different events.

In early July, place at the festival Les Moulins à Paroles at the Château du Poutyl. On the program, readings, stories, plays or concerts.

As of July 14, the city organizes a popular ball and a fireworks display.
