Objat is a town in Corrèze, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, 15 km north-west of Brive-la-Gaillarde.
Its area of 9.5 km² extends from 109 to 244 m above sea level, in the heart of the Loyre valley, the watercourse crossing the locality and forming its limit to the southwest.
Although it now has some 3,700 inhabitants, having benefited from a demographic boom linked to the proximity of Brive but which has not altered the quality of its living environment, Objat has effectively preserved a green environment. There is still 40% of agricultural land and 22% of meadows...
At the crossroads of several major communication axes, the small town has also retained its commercial vocation: in the past, the region's vegetable production was shipped there to Paris. Today, its orchards, red fruit crops and Limousin veal production still make its reputation. Not to mention the nuts, chestnuts and truffles found at the very popular Sunday market.
Labeled "green station", Objat's cultural, sporting and nature leisure offer, around its lake, deserves attention, a stone's throw from the major sites in the south of Corrèze (Brive, Collonges-la-Rouge or Turenne…).
A visit to Objat can begin with the discovery of its church, which constitutes the jewel of its architectural heritage. Erected in the 15th century, dedicated to Saint Bartholomew, it was endowed in the 19th century with an astonishing but remarkable bell-tower-porch topped with a bulb (or dome) that the inhabitants compare to "a German helmet" (a fine point s' pupil in the center). Inside, there are several wooden statues from the 17th century (including a magnificent Madonna and Child) and a stained glass window depicting Saint-Jean-Baptiste. The building is the subject of a restoration campaign. For more information, call +33 5 55 25 81 63.
On the cultural side, the municipal media library regularly schedules events of interest (meetings, exhibitions, readings): contact on +33 5 55 25 26 77. As for the Congress Hall which can accommodate up to 1500 spectators, are offered shows and events throughout the year. Information on +33 5 55 25 81 63.
Then head for the Jacques Lagrave leisure center, which is a vast area of around twenty hectares. Arranged at the turn of the 2000s around a body of water appreciated by fishermen, it has picnic areas, play areas (one has a zip line), sports equipment (skate park, space multi-sport, bowling alley). A path in the form of a greenway, 2 km long, dotted with trees, allows you to go around it on foot or on two-wheelers.
The site was chosen to host an aquatic center with traditional swimming pools, Nordic pool, fun equipment and a very complete wellness center. All information on +33 5 55 25 82 94.
Finally, the Jacques Lagrave leisure area has been enriched with an 18-hole mini-golf course which delights young and old and a village of chalets which adds to the character. disorienting the whole. Information on +33 5 55 25 81 63.
It should also be noted that tennis courts can be booked with the local club on +33 5 55 25 88 93.
There remains the notable potential available to the town for hikers. Signposted routes allow you to appreciate its hilly landscape, its cultivated areas (red fruits, orchards), its meadows dedicated to breeding... Larger loops link the area to the surroundings of Brive or even to the Dordogne valley. Maps and information on +33 5 55 29 98 78.
