White Penitents Chapel, formerly Church of Our Lady in the city; Over the centuries, church, chapel, church, synagogue, bathhouse and since the late twentieth century library.
The chapel was built in the fourteenth century by order of Pope John XXII. Restored and converted into library at the end of the twentieth century, it has kept in its apse frescoes of the sixteenth.
Laure Noves, the muse of the Italian poet Petrarch, married in this chapel in 1325. It crosses the path of Petrarch in Avignon and inspires thousands of verses of the Canzoniere.
