Located at the edge of Vienna, Nouâtre already existed in Gallo- Roman times as the Nogastrum. Step on the path that went from Spain to Belgium, via Poitiers and Tours, the ancient city had a harbor and a ford, a temple, a necropolis of pottery workshops and many buildings. Castle Nouâtre already mentioned in 925, was rebuilt by the Count of Anjou Fulk Nerra then restored in the 15th century by Jean du Fou, lord Montbazon, Sainte-Maure and Nouâtre, chamberlain of Louis XI. It was at this time that Nouâtre flourished with 4 shows per year and an important pilgrimage to Saint Reverend, famous for curing the insane.
