Nexon

Nexon presents a great diversity both in its built and natural heritage as well as in its cultural attractiveness. The 17th century castle, restored in the 19th century, is surrounded by a park of about 40 hectares, ideal for walking, cycling or horseback riding, in fact the equestrian center "Le haras du parc" offers walks all throughout the year by reservation. A Tèrra Aventura course is waiting to be discovered! Since 1986, the castle has housed the Town Hall. Around the castle are the stables, witnesses of the prestigious history of the horse at Nexon. The stud existed in the 16th century, it is one of the oldest in France.

Nexon is also well known for its "Garden of the Senses, bridge between generations". This free-access garden is a place where all the senses are exhaled through several small themed gardens such as the bark path, the bamboo maze, the scent tunnel, the orchard or the therapeutic garden. Located in the park of the castle between the retirement home and the schools, it is a meeting place between the generations thanks to days of workshops, planting, and meetings set up throughout the year. Free access, the garden can also be visited with a guide (reservations at the Tourist Office).

The reputation of the town is very largely represented by "le Sirque - National Center for Circus Arts": shows, exhibitions, creative residencies, resource center, contemporary circus festival all summer long. Here is a part of the missions of the association. A permanent tent (Le Vaisseaux) is installed in the park of the castle to receive all these animations.

The 12th and 15th century church, with free access, bears vestiges of fortifications such as the stone bell tower and the bretêche. Inside, you can admire the reliquary bust of Saint Ferréol from the 16th century as well as an enamelled copper reliquary from the 13th century.

Nexon also has two registered hiking trails that can be used all year round (topo guide available at the Tourist Office) and a campsite around the Lande pond accessible to all.

• Exchange, openness and sharing are the hallmarks of Capsule de Temps, an initiative imagined by acrobatic dancer Julia Christ and designed as a space for creation and experimentation for some fifteen lucky (young) people from Nexon and the surrounding area. - Her main concern here is to bring generations together. Starting with a question put to sociologist and philosopher Bruno Latour : - "What would you say to your grandson/granddaughter when he/she turns 40 ?", Julia Christ is developing a series of workshops to create a collective work using acrobatics, dance, object manipulation and stage construction. - A public presentation of these physical and artistic compositions will take place at the end of the workshop week. - Ages 10 and up - In partnership with Centre Social Pays de Nexon ? • Immersed in their aquarium, Frédéri Vernier and Sébastien Davis-VanGelder turn apnea into a new circus discipline ! - By creating a dialogue between choreographic quality and breathing capacity underwater, the two circus artists reconnect humans with their original, primitive aquatic capacities. In this new playground, a new research space where they dialogue with the very definition of acrobatics, in 3 dimensions, freed from the constraints of gravity, they rediscover the notion of circus prowess with a certain mastery of the marvelous. Isn't holding one's breath first and foremost a matter of relearning how to breathe ? So, act ! - Let's take a deep breath and dive into this frontal, breathtakingly beautiful, direct and up-close show to share our emotions and, why not, a few splashes…

Several interesting sites exist around Nexon. Castle Lastours part of the tourist route "Richard the Lionheart" is visible from the road in the municipality of Rilhac-Lastours. Visits to the torch, animations and medieval camps are organized in summer. On the same municipality is the "Garden of the first millennium," medieval garden free access all year. Located in the old castle mound, it consists of enclosed spaces such as flower garden, orchard or herb garden. The castle ruins Châlucet also integrated into the tourist route can be visited freely accessible all year round. Located in the municipality of Saint-Jean-Ligoure, explanatory panels are available for visitors to learn about its history. The "tour Jeannette" allows you to enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding valleys.

A few kilometers from Nexon, in the municipality of Janailhac, visitors can admire the paintings and frescoes classified monument church history. Finally, the workshop-museum of Earth Puycheny in Saint-Hilaire-les-Places offers you to discover the work of the old tile makers-feuillardiers through visits and clay sculpture workshops for children and adults.

Tours of the Moor in the Serpentine Rousseille also feasible to discover the rich fauna and flora of this area. On the same commune, Lake Plaisance can practice different outdoor activities: swimming, pedal boating, mini-golf, water slides, horse riding...
