The Museum of Fine Arts of Nancy, founded in 1793, is based in one of the four large pavilions that line Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, more specifically in the old college of medicine, and in the remains of the Lorraine capital's old fortifications, which can be seen from the basement.

Its first collections resulted from the confiscation of the clergy's property during the Revolution. Under Napoleon, the museum acquired major works from the national collections (Perugino, Rubens, Philippe de Champaigne, etc.) then some important donations of paintings and sculptures further enriched it throughout the 19th century.

An important bequest in 1965 forms the basis of the modern collection, including works by Bonnard and Modigliani, as well as a collection based on the works of Jean Prouvé, furniture and architectural items, which was started in 2009 and is still being put together.

Don't miss the Daum collection, which consists of around 300 pieces of glassware, and graphic works from the Far East gathered together in the Cartier-Bresson collection.
