Things to see and do

Romanesque, the church of St. Peter and St. Paul unveils medieval frescoes that are among the most remarkable of all Burgundy. Open all year round, it was founded in the 10th century as a dependency of the 7th century monastery. Listed as a Historical Monument, it also allows you to admire a 13th century caquetoire. Made between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, the frescoes describe several biblical scenes such as Genesis or the Flood, as well as the life of Jesus and representations of saints. They were discovered in the early 1980s under a coat of whitewash, and restored for several years. This represents an area of not less than 200 m².

While strolling in the village, do not miss to admire the pottery oven of La Bâtisse which dates from the end of the XVIIIe century. Listed historical monument, it is part of a private property.

If you want to browse the area in an original way, you can take the Puisaye-Forterre tourist train that connects Villiers-Saint-Benoît to the pottery oven in the village. It takes place on the former SNCF track downgraded and shares its route with the largest cyclorail in France.

The town of Moutiers-en-Puisaye also reveals some beautiful classified natural sites, like the meadows and ponds between Treigny and the village, or the reed bed of the pond of Moutiers and the surrounding meadows. Several marked hiking trails allow you to appreciate the charms of the place. The pond also offers a beautiful fishing area for lovers.
