Renowned for its traditionally-produced kirsch, the charming village of Mouthier-Haute-Pierre, nestling in the heart of the Loue valley, enjoys a magnificent natural setting. Mouthier-Haut, with its 15th-century church and its old houses, and Mouthier-Bas, on the river's edge, are within walking distance from each other.
Surrounded by rock faces, the village is a good climbing base.
Land of contrast between mountain and valley, Mouthier is the last village before the gorge Nouailles. It offers fantastic landscapes full of fabulous legends (The Monk and the Sorceress). Within a few kilometers, you go from 300 to 900 m altitude, the valley of the Jura plateau and you will be the gateway to Switzerland. In these wild places, the village (400 m) nestles at the foot of steep cliffs of Haute-Pierre (882 m) and Monk (800 m).

Places full of history and culture: A picturesque village, it began with an ancient Benedictine priory founded towards the year 800. Its name comes from the monastery and the rock under which it was built. It was built on the right bank of the Loue, in the sun. In the village nearby, Loue is a river of 1st category known for its trout.

In January: Feast of faults. The faults are large candles that are rotated after having lighted a large fire. After a Mass and a meal, the village rises torchlight procession up the hill where the fire then the flaws are on, after singing, mulled wine and we descend to eat the cake offered by the county (it is possible buy faults on the spot if you do not do).
In summer, a night market (from 19h to 22h) anime Wednesday evening once a month (2 times a month in July and August). This market includes twenty merchants.
The source of the Loue: magnificent resurgence to 20 minutes by car.
