Within a few kilometers, you go from 300 to 900 m altitude, the valley of the Jura plateau and you will be the gateway to Switzerland. In these wild places, the village (400 m) nestles at the foot of steep cliffs of Haute-Pierre (882 m) and Monk (800 m).

Surrounded by meadows covered with cherry trees, whose fruits give kirsch deemed Mouthier is one of the main attractions of the Valley. His trail will take you to the meeting of the Upper Valley of the Loue.

At the corner of Route Courbet, you can certainly see: Chamois and roe deer, buzzards and peregrine falcons, foxes and weasels or trout and grayling from a flora rich in wild orchids.

Places full of history and culture: A picturesque village, it began with an ancient Benedictine priory founded towards the year 800. Its name comes from the monastery and the rock under which it was built. It was built on the right bank of the Loue, in the sun. The culture of the vine is as old as the village, which earned him his character. The streets are narrow, lined with old winegrowers' houses with interesting relics of the past sculptures and statues. It consists of two parts: Top Mouthier encircling the 16th century church and houses Mouthier Netherlands down to the foot of the Loue spanned by an old stone bridge from the 16th century. Where many mills have settled in the 18th: tannery, mill, mill ... He left few traces today.

There was also Ernest Reyer: composer, Guillou adoption, to whom we owe the opera "Sigurd."

Water making cherry back to the 17th century: we talk since 1735, considering it "a rare thing, a present desired and valuable." The Marsotte: This cherry gave his name to the village cooperative. It is produced with kirsch cherries local untreated and collected manually. It is aged at least 6 months before being marketed. It is a premium product.
