Moustoir-Ac is a town of Morbihan in Brittany, 26 km north of Vannes.
Its vast territory of nearly 34 square kilometers belongs to Lanvaux Landes, a natural region formed by a long shale ridge 70 km and 5 km wide that stretches up to Redon. Their peak, shaped like a small plateau at 176 meters, is the rest of the municipality of Moustoir-Ac.
This results in a Rolling green hills but stony, crossed streams.
Dotted with many megaliths evidence of a human presence since prehistoric times, the Moustoir-Ac site develops from the eleventh century when a chapel was built and especially after 1387 when erected in separate Plumelin independent parish. Thereafter, it is attached Locmine until the Revolution while still retaining its own priest.
During the Revolution, the town is known as a haunt of Chouans who become famous by using black sheepdogs to inform them about the positions "enemy". The agricultural and craft vocation endures the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. With its heritage and its unique environment, which has about 1870 inhabitants, the town is now popular with hikers who appreciate its bucolic nature while remaining close to the coast.
The heritage of the town justify a course in the form of discovery that includes several megalithic monuments, three are classified as historical monuments: the dolmen Kermorvan, composed of a long 3m slab resting on four supports and that is it typical dolmens as represented in textbooks, the menhir Kerara and especially the menhir-Men Kermarquer arm, known as the highest of Morbihan (6.80 m!).
Several religious buildings are also protected. This is the case of the church of St. Barbara, which dates from the sixteenth century and was then provided with a baptismal chapel and an altar before a round is finally built in the 1770s.
However, Moustoir-Ac is famous more for Kerhéro chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. The original building is dated 1749, but the building was beautifully restored after the Second War. Although modest in terms of size, the chapel is beautifully made (exterior joints, windows renovated). It houses several statues depicting Saint Cornely, St. George, St. Barbara and St. Joseph. According to tradition, forgiveness is celebrated the third Sunday of September, a procession including riders down to the beautiful fountain below.
To see more of the resort, beautifully carved cross in the cemetery, all three crosses (at the place known namesake), dated from the seventeenth century, which appear to have been carved on menhirs and "Christianized" many calvaries implemented at the discretion of paths in the countryside surrounding the village and some carved fountains.
Moreover, the area contains several archaeological sites have been largely uncovered in the nineteenth century, as the necropolis of the mound-shaped Resto (dated 7000 BCE) or the remains of a Roman camp.
As for leisure activities and "nature" on Moustoir-Ac, several hiking trails accessible to walkers but also for mountain bikers and horse riders have been designed and signposted. One is dedicated to the megalithic sites, another, a series of ridges, the specifics of the Landes Lanvaux and another allows for round the town.
