Located some fifteen kilometres from Mauriac, the Church of St. Bartholomew in Moussages, crowned by a bell gable, has kept its choir and modillion-adorned chevet from the Romanesque era. These modillions, carved with grotesque masks and animals in very acrobatic postures, are sure to make an impression on you!
A listed Historic Monument, the building is above all known for its Maestà, a magnificent polychrome wood statue of the Madonna and Child from the 12th century. Formerly kept in Jailhac Chapel, where a copy of it now stands, this gem of Romanesque statuary was honoured by the Minister of Culture André Malraux, who made it a star of his Imaginary Museum.
