The castle Moulins-Engilbert is located on the town of the same name, in the Nièvre, 55 km east of Nevers.
Also called "The Old Castle", the building was built in the thirteenth century on the foundations of a first dungeon and becomes possession of the Count of Nevers rebuilding the dungeon.
Its defenses are reinforced but in 1475, the royal and Burgundian troops quarreled the castle and the small city which developed around.
It is the end of the glorious hours of this site where the Duke of Burgundy lived for several decades.
Even before the Revolution, part of the castle was transformed into a prison and it was not until the second half of the 19th century that a local notable restored some elements but turned the castle into a garden with a pond surrounded by romantic ruins, as it was then. fashion.
Later, a public park including an orchard is even built around the basin.
It remains today some elements of enclosure and the bases of the dungeon.
The whole castle was entrusted by the municipality to an association that carries out restoration campaigns and programs animations on the site (medieval festival the first weekend of August).
